MARCH CHALLENGE|KEELEY SCHRODER|
Day 31: Are you haunted by who you once were?
March Madness Challenge: Who was I, who am i?
Last Day of March Challenge: Thank you, Keeley Schroder.
Who was I?
A young man making his way. Meeting every challenge with defiance, pushing to be better than anyone else. I had to succeed. It wasn’t an option, failing was not an option. There is not much to say about that person, except that he succeeded. He did so at great cost. Too great.
Who Am I?
In a world of individuals, I am another.
I am one who knew nothing of love until it lit upon my heart; one of the lucky few to have experienced something so profound and personal it altered the very course of my life.
Are we all like me? Am I like everyone else to the degree that I forgive, but can’t forget? Am I driven by what I feel? A man graced by one person’s love, one heart, one spirit, a need for this love that surpasses mere craving — it embraces starvation, the very draining of life without it.
When I have hurt this love, I have all but killed myself. Ironic then, that this completely unintended emotional suicide should affect the physical self so much.
I am one of millions, with only a need for one. Without this one, I am as invisible as my shadow on a cloudy day. I don’t love to live; I live to love.
Yet love has time and again beaten me to a pulp, as if love might be named Jack Dempsey, piling on me with a fury, above the mighty roar of life’s regret. But love, on another day, soothing as rich Irish coffee, calms the inarticulate heart.
I am a man living in the weather of what love brings, when something creaks in the wind, when it rains all day, before the evening sky is blown clear of cloud, the clashing of boughs silenced, and poetry again shines in the heart.
