Democracy is a One Way Street

Say the West is a story we made up to erase
Conestoga wagon tracks seen from space
From the Northwest Passage to the Great Divide
Everybody’s looking for the other side

I’m still waiting for whisky to whisk me away
Still waiting for the ashtray to lead me astray
Democracy is a street of one-way signs
Going around in circles on the other side

I sit and wish for the shooting stars to stay
They wink before going down the Milky Way
We’re left in the middle of the Northwest sky
Everywhere we look, there’s another side
