Member-only story
Det Sup. Bruce Craig.
Working for the C.I.D Glasgow Division.
This isn’t my idea, but I’m prepared to go along.
The author asked me to introduce myself. My name is Bruce Craig; I’m fifty-three years old. I’m married to Diane and have two children, Angus, who is thirteen, and Anna, who is eleven. My work colleagues call me Detective Superintendant Craig, working for the Glasgow Criminal Investigation Department.
The author has sought and received permission from my superior, Chief Superintendant Archibald Duncan, for you to accompany me and my team as we try to solve crimes in a city of more than one and a half million people.
Before we begin, let me prep you for my day.
Fumbling around in the darkness, trying to unravel the bed sheets that
have encased me, I scramble to read the time on the clock. 1:50 A.M.
Glancing around my room, I had hoped to unwind worries by getting a good night’s sleep.
I shouldn’t bother; nights are usually sleepless. I lie awake anxiously, waiting for the alarm to go off. I wake every couple of hours so as not to oversleep. Therefore, I never really relax.
Knowing what you already know, it’s not uncommon for my job calls to be available at night.
