Those who study history learn that one goes through a series of stages during a culture’s birth, growth, decline, and fall.

Stage One: Bondage. The most stable for reasons that should be apparent. Those who keep others in Bondage derive the system’s benefits and seek to keep the bonded downtrodden, ignorant, and complacent.
(America 1830s)

Stage Two: Liberty! Liberty is when anyone can do anything if they do not annoy the neighbors or cause violence.
(America 1865)

Stage Three: Abundance. The natural outgrowth of liberty is that all those people do what they want when they want to manage to do many things that accumulate wealth. In the process, cultural and individual wealth proliferates.
(America 1950s)

Stage four: Greed. When the culture shifts, the people who are alive see the abundance created by their predecessors and want to do even better for themselves.
(America 1960s)

Stage Five: Complacency. When the greedy have everything, they think of a certain high standard of living as their birthright; they no longer have to strive to achieve; instead, they have more than the poor or other nations can even imagine having in their wildest dreams.
(America 1990s)

Stage Six. Apathy. When the youth culture does not take any interest in anything requiring effort. Everything from education to work ethic declines, and the hedonistic philosophy takes root in the culture. So-called Moral Fiber degrades, and the culture turns to earthly pleasures to self-entertain.
(America 2010)

Stage Seven: Dependency. The point where leaders promise the party will go on forever as long as you put them in charge. The people in the culture willingly give up the right to think for themselves in return for a complete abdication of personal responsibility.
(America 2023)

Stage Eight: Bondage. See the opening paragraph.
(America 2025)

Where do you think we are as a culture?

If you do not like Bondage, stage one, what are you doing to change it?

(No offense will be taken if you dislike being tagged for various reasons. Please let me know, and I’ll be sure it doesn’t happen on my posts again. If, on the other hand, you’d grace me by allowing a tag, I’d be thrilled to add you.
