Pirate Grandfather

Away from the lonely oceans
On Colorado mountain time
We walk while in conversation
Recalling our childhood lives
And not to be embellished
Not to think about tomorrow
Thanksgiving or beyond
But now, in love, talking as we go
Hiking the wonderous Flat Irons
Pausing at every vista’s scene
Away from sidewalks and traffic noise
Breathing air so fresh and clean
Boulder isn’t Sausalito
Nor does it desire to be
No yacht masts on the bay
But mountains vast and free
Waiting for our grandchild
We wear designer masks
We’re going to be grandparents
And enjoy grandparent tasks
I could do a double handstand
In this mountain resting place
So ready am I to welcome
A grandson to embrace
