Thankful for Small Mercies
and the seasons change outside my window
Autumn is showing subtle traces
falling leaves in telling places
less humidity and clearer air
time to bring in that blue lawn chair
was there a summer I soon forgot
the heat, fires, floods, the lot
I hear fall coming in the trees bare song
welcoming the new season to come along
now we’ll have our autumn walks
changing colors and vibrant talks
October ears, November noses
coffee houses to warm our toesies
kicking the yellow and brown leaves
piled deep under woodland trees
brisk, clean air and starry nights
silhouettes in moonshine’s sights
After heatwaves and humid days
autumn will refresh in many ways
cool the atmosphere, fresh rain scent
will I care where the summer went?
Hello, my friends; it’s good to be back at my desk looking up old friends, responding to so many of you that I’ve missed while dodging the black cabs, the double-decker busses, and escalating down to London’s rail system beneath the city. I’ve a thousand stories to catch up on, other travellers’ tales, poems, short stories, and prompts. It’s good to be back in my chair, looking out the window at the changing season and wondering how so much horror and devastation is happening in the world.
I’m thankful for small mercies, friends, family, and first responders wherever they are in the world.
If everyone can give a little, it will be a huge gift.
